Mom's Maternal Grandmother
According to Grandma and Grandpa's marriage registration in Saskatchewan Mom's maternal Grandmother was Helene Nissen. This is Helene's birth registration sent to me from Denmark by Nancy Petersen in Haderslev. It shows Helene was born in 1862 to Lauritz Nissen and Catharina Schroder. My Grandmother Conradine was apparently an illegitimate child and there is no record of who her father was. Helene married in 1891 when Grandma was 4 years old to Friedrich Heinrich Hartung and they can be found in the 1921 census records of Haderslev. Below is Vilstrup Kirk where the births of Helene and Conradine are recorded.

Since my original post here, we have determined via dna matches that Conradine's father was Christian Bertelsen born June 30 1864 son of Peter or Peder Bertelsen and Anna Catherine Friis. Christian left Denmark for America when Helene was about 2 and a half months pregnant. He went to Iowa where there were already relatives living. Eventually he married Margaret Hansen and raised a large family of half siblings to Conradine. He died in 1933 and is buried in Iowa. I have dna matches to some of his descendants and to descendants of his sisters.
